- The functional principle movement is very simple as it perfectly simulates the process of wilful muscular tensioning. If a muscle is to be tensioned, the brain sends this information in the form of an electric signal transmitted at high speed via the nerve tracts. When it reaches the muscle, is causes a muscular contraction. With EMS, the contraction is obtained through particularly controlled and shaped electric pulses of low potential voltage directly targeted to the motor nerve by means of special large-size electrodes (PowerPads). All big muscle groups of the abdomen, the legs, the buttocks, the back, the chest, the arms, and the neck are all activated simultaneously. Muscles do not distinguish between contractions initiated by the brain and contractions induced by EMS – they simply start working immediately. Specific body posturing helps to intensify the muscular contractions in a targeted way. This workout effect is optimized by tensioning or moving the musculature in correspondence with the timing of the pulses and against the power of the rising signal intensity. - We recommend having a break of at least 48 hours between the training sessions. This period of time is based on a study conducted by German Sport University Cologne, which examined an enzyme, creatine kinase, that is found in the human body and is used as an objective parameter for workout intensity. The researchers concluded that a creatine kinase test after EMS workout resulted in values partly 18 times higher than after conventional training, therefore proving the positive effects of doubling EMS system with regular workouts and at the same time increased need for resting period of time between training sessions.
- EMS training: nutrition
- A well-balanced nutrition helps to achieve the set goals more quickly. As EMS is an intensive training method, it is helpful to provide the muscles with a sufficient quantity of protein right after the training sessions. This may be done by consuming curd, cottage cheese, steaks, and other protein rich food.
